It's NEVER been easier to switch to a Mac
Here is the current link to download the Windows Migration Assistant for Lion application to a Windows machine.
On the new Mac OS X Lion setup you will see this screen after setting network, Language and keyboard information:
I would STRONGLY advise that both the Mac and the PC be connected to a copper based network at this point instead of wireless. It will be MUCH quicker if both systems are physically connected by a hub or router.
When both applications see each other you will then see these two screens on each respective system:
The NUMBERS WILL BE DIFFERENT! This is just a way to confirm you are both talking to the correct systems as a security precaution.
Any standard e-mail, documents, music, photos and EVEN the desktop wallpaper it moves it ALL over in a short time frame with NO issues. Best thing ever for folks moving to the Mac platform in my humble opinion.
Your pictures will also be found in iPhoto by default. E-mail will be pulled and contact information will be in the Address Book application.
The Apple team that worked on this tool did a great job on this product! Now it’s even easier than ever to join the land of ‘it just works’.
